Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a pedestrian who was chasing her dog as it ran into the street in Setauket this morning.

Setauket, NY - January 13th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a pedestrian who was chasing her dog as it ran into the street in Setauket this morning.

A dog escaped from its yard, located at 381 Main Street, at 6:30 a.m. and when the dog’s owner, Peggy Place, attempted to catch the dog, both were struck by a Ford Explorer that was travelling westbound on Main Street.

Place, 56, was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center where she was listed in critical condition. Place’s dog, a boxer, was transported to an animal hospital.  The driver of the Explorer, Richard Sayler, 51, of 79 Greenlawn Road, Sound Beach, was not injured.
