Man Arrested for DWI After Driving Wrong Way on LIE

Medford, NY - January 13th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a Medford man for driving while intoxicated after he drove the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway early today.

Suffolk County Highway Patrol Officer Todd Collier and Sgt. Michael Baranek responded to several 911calls reporting a 2006 Honda Civic travelling westbound in the eastbound HOV lane of the LIE at Exit 64 in Medford.

Sgt. Baranek approached the vehicle in the eastbound lane while Officer Collier drove west on the westbound side until they caught up with the vehicle and were able to pull the driver over between exits 59 and 58. The driver, Steven Brill, 51, of 33 Daremy Circle, Medford, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Reckless Driving.

Brill is being held at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
