According to officials, a case of a more contagious variant of Covid-19 has been confirmed in an unidentified 64-year-old man from Massapequa.

“It’s never been more important for us to use our common sense and stick to what is proven to work: wear a mask, wash hands often, stay six ft apart, and avoid unsafe gatherings,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran in a statement on her Facebook page.

In addition to the Long Island case, two other people in Saratoga County have also tested positive for this variant of COVID-19, first identified in Britain.

Reports say that the mutation is believed to be up to 70 times more contagious than the standard form of COVID-19.
