Suffolk SPCA: Mastic Beach Man Charged With Animal Cruelty

Mastic Beach, NY - January 11, 2017 - Detectives with the Suffolk County SPCA have charged a Mastic Beach man with 2 counts of animal cruelty on January 10, 2018.
 
Xavier Maisonet, 32, was charged on Wednesday with misdemeanor animal cruelty for failure to provide proper sustenance including food and veterinary care for Coco, a 6 year old female pit bull and \ Princess, a 2 year old female pit bull. The Suffolk County SPCA launched an investigation after receiving complaints the dogs were severely neglected.
 
The dogs were transported to a Veterinary Hospital for evaluation where it was determined that the dogs were emaciated and dehydrated.
 
Maisonet will be arraigned in First District Court in Islip on 3/18/2018.
 
If convicted, Maisonet will be required by law to register with the Suffolk County Animal Abuse Registry. Each person registered with Suffolk County shall remain on the Animal Abuse Registry for five years following his release and must notify of any change of residence.
 
Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
   
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
