Hempstead Man Broke Deli Window with Rock before Burglarizing Establishment, Cops Say

NCPD reports the arrest of Stephen Antoine of Hempstead, 21, for Burglary.

Hempstead, NY - January 10, 2019 - The Fifth Squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for a Burglary that occurred on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 2:10 a.m. in West Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, witnesses called 911 when they heard glass breaking at the Espinoza Deli, located at 282 Hempstead Turnpike. Upon police arrival it was discovered that someone had thrown a large rock through the front glass door. 
 
During the investigation it was determined that someone entered the deli and stole an undisclosed amount of cash as well as store merchandise. As officers were canvassing the area they came across the defendant, Stephen Antoine, 21. When the defendant saw the police he began to run which led to a brief foot pursuit and after a struggle the defendant was placed under arrest. He was in possession of the proceeds taken from the deli.
 
The defendant Stephen Antoine is charged with Burglary 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. He was arraigned on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at First District Court, 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
