As a part of New York State’s 2019 Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) Awards, MacArthur Airport will receive $1 million to modernize the main terminal. Improvements will include work for the baggage claim area, as well as roof and vestibule repairs, according to a statement released by the Town of Islip.

 

Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said that these projects will help to bring jobs and new opportunities to Long Island.

 

“We will continue to grow and improve our airport, and work steadfastly with air carriers to provide more destinations and options for the local community,” she said.

 

According to Commissioner of Aviation Shelley LaRose-Arken one of the amenities that customers look for in an airport is fast and efficient baggage claim. 

 

“In 2019, we upgraded runways, signage, the Fire Rescue Building, and the overall travel experience at MacArthur Airport,” LaRose-Arken said. “We will be actively continuing this trend in the year ahead to provide an excellent customer experience and well-run facility.”

 

MacArthur Airport was recently nominated for USA Today’s 10Best Awards as one of the Best Small Airports in America. The Small Airport category includes airports under 10 million annual passengers. MacArthur Airport serves approximately 1.6 million passengers annually.
