Thief Breaks Through Wall to Burglarize Bethpage Cell Phone Store, Cops Say

Bethpage, NY - January 9, 2019 - The Second Squad reports the arrest of a Brentwood man for an incident that occurred on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at about 5:36 am in Bethpage.
 
According to detectives, 2nd Precinct officers responded to a burglar alarm located at T-Mobile 4020 Hempstead Tpke. Upon an officer’s arrival, a male was observed running out the front door, carrying a duffel bag. The officer gave chase. During the chase, the officer injured his leg and continued the pursuit of the suspect. With the assistance of an off duty Nassau County Police Officer, they apprehended the male subject and recovered stolen merchandise which consisted of electronics and memory cards.
 
An investigation was conducted. It was determined that the defendant Anthony M. Lewis, 41, had broken into a vacant store adjacent to the T-Mobile and then entered the T-Mobile by breaking through a wall.
 
Defendant Anthony M. Lewis is charged with 2 counts of Burglary 3rd Degree and 1 count of Assault 2nd Degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
