East Hills Man Assaults Police Officer While Under Arrest for a Domestic Incident

East Hills, NY - January 9, 2017 - The Third Squad reports the arrest of an East Hills man for Assault of a Police Officer that occurred on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.

According to detectives, 911 received a call for a domestic incident at a George Street residence.  Third Precinct officers arrived at the scene and after an investigation placed Joseph Scarangella, 38 of East Hills under arrest.  When the defendant was being escorted from the residence he head butted the officer causing both defendant and officer to fall to the ground.  The officer suffered injuries to his face and knee.  The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.  No other injuries were reported.

Scarangella is charged with Assault 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Contempt 2nd degree.  He will be arraigned on Monday, January 9, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
