Huntington Supervisor Lupinacci Announces Youth Bureau Awarded $600,000 Grant to Serve Runaway, Homeless, At-Risk Youth
Huntington, NY - January 8, 2019 - The Town of Huntington Youth Bureau was awarded a $600,000 Federal Grant in October 2018 to serve runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth and their families in the Town of Huntington.
“This grant recognizes the great work of the Town of Huntington’s Youth Bureau, specifically our Sanctuary Project, which provides support to Huntington’s vulnerable youth and their families,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci.
The Youth Bureau’s Sanctuary Project, which serves at-risk youth in the Town of Huntington, has been awarded $200,000 every year, for three years, from The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Basic Center Program (BCP). This grant is part of the Federal government’s Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) funding.
Basic Center Program grant funding will help Huntington Sanctuary Project provide crisis intervention, hotline services, counseling, parenting groups, independent living programs and short-term emergency housing through a network of local volunteer Host Home families for at-risk youth under 18 in the Town of Huntington. Huntington is one of only four recipients of this grant in the entire State of New York and the only recipient on Long Island. The Town of Huntington grant application received a perfect score from the evaluation panel.
