PSEG Long Island employees brought holiday cheer across Long Island this holiday season – honoring veterans, providing food for people in need, donating toys and wrapping gifts to support neighbors and the community.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, a group of volunteers from PSEG Long Island participated in the annual Wreaths Across America Day, laying wreaths on military gravesites at both Calverton National Cemetery and Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn. Similar ceremonies took place at more than 2,500 locations across the country all on the same day.

A few days later, a group of 10 employees from PSEG Long Island’s ADELANTE Employee Business Resource Group spent a frigid Monday helping the Lighthouse Mission distribute food and clothing to people in Ronkonkoma. PSEG Long Island supports the Lighthouse Mission throughout the year with monetary donations, along with food and toy collections made by employees.

PSEG Long Island employees also helped make the holiday season a little brighter for local children by contributing to a gift collection drive at the company’s offices. More than 100 employees donated 350 toys, games and gift cards to the PSEG Long Island Outreach Council’s annual toy collection drive. The goodies were distributed to children and families at more than a dozen agencies across PSEG Long Island’s service area from Riverhead to Far Rockaway, including the Bellport Hagerman East Patchogue Alliance in Patchogue, Christ Apostolic Church WOSEM in Elmont, First Presbyterian Church of Northport, Lighthouse Mission in Bellport, Mary Brennan INN Soup Kitchen and Salvation Army in Hempstead, St. John’s Food Pantry and Outreach in Riverhead, St. Mary Star of the Sea, Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Far Rockaway and Saint Patrick's Outreach of Bay Shore.

During a two-day period, PSEG Long Island volunteers decked out in Santa hats and smiles wrapped gifts for families at Tri-CYA/Family Service League’s annual Project T.O.Y. event in Huntington. The event allows local parents and caregivers to shop for holiday gifts for their children for free. Then volunteer “elves” from PSEG Long Island and the community wrap them in donated gift wrap and bags. PSEG Long Island also donated $1,000 and reusable shopping bags to hold the wrapped gifts, wrapping paper, gift bags, bows, ribbons and toys.

PSEG Long Island employees support their neighbors with these types of activities throughout the year because, along with providing safe and reliable power, community service is an important part of PSEG Long Island’s culture.
