Fork & Fiddle Brings Southern Food Trent to Port Jefferson

The serial restaurateur who opened Prohibition Kitchen just this year in Port Jefferson is amassing her own little dominion of quirky food joints in the village. Each one brings a sometimes tongue-in-cheek, trendy, southern style but always delicious new flavor with it. The latest by owner Lisa Harris is called Fork and Fiddle, which opened December 7th in the former location of Smoke Shack Blues. (Harris also owns Torte Jefferson Pies and East Main & Main Donuts, both in Port Jefferson.)

Fork and Fiddle offers three ways to dine.

The Ala Carte menu features southern inspired dishes like deep fried deviled eggs, backcountry clams, lobster and grits, a mixed grill which is pulled pork, hot links, nashville hot chicken, chowchow, cowboy caviar (black eyed pea salad), and meatloaf sliders. They also have an interesting sounding chicken fried quacker featuring confit duck, ritz cracker crumb, chipotle, cinnamon, hot honey, house made fruit compote.

If you like just about everything you see on the menu then the Southern Grand Tasting is for you. They will feed you and feed you a multi course tasting with unlimited beer and wine. ($89 per person.)

The Family Style Southern Dinner offers mixed grill, slow country fried rice, salad, crispy ribs, biscuits and gravy, and deepā€fried apple pie for dessert. ($28 per person.)

Facebook reviewers are giving it high marks even though it hasn’t been open for very long.

“Great place, with a well thought out menu and live music that didn’t overwhelm the experience,” wrote Rich J. “Food was excellently prepared, very fresh and presented well. Actually started the night out at Prohibition Kitchen on Main Street, the sister restaurant, for cocktails. Both places are nice additions to Port Jeff and the local restaurant scene. Will be back for sure.”

Traci S called it fantastic.

“Menu was so creatively delicious, staff and owners were tremendously attentive, pleasant and so warm and welcoming,” she wrote. “Atmosphere and presentation was upbeat, fun and sets a wonderful tone for conversation and sharing meals!”
