Authorities: Teacher at Brentwood Middle School Arrested for Sex Crimes

Brentwood, NY - January 7, 2019 - Suffolk County Police on Friday, January 4 arrested a teacher from the North Middle School located in Brentwood for having sexual contact with a former student.  
 
Special Victims Section detectives, assisted by Computer Crimes Unit detectives, arrested Thomas Barton at his home located in Medford at approximately 4:45 p.m. for having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former student who is 16-years-old.
 
Barton, 54, was charged with Rape 3rd Degree, Criminal Sex Act 3rd Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. 
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Special Victims Section at 631-852-6531 Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 12 a.m.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
