Hewlett Senior Killed After Being Struck by Two Cars in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - January 6th, 2015 - The Homicide Squad reports the details of a fatal auto accident, in which a pedestrian was struck, that occurred in Hempstead on Tuesday, 01/06/15 at 6:20 P.M.

According to detectives, John Santopolo, 65, of Hewlett, was attempting to cross Peninsula Blvd./South Franklin Ave., when he was struck by an eastbound 2011 Honda Crossover.  The deceased was propelled into the roadway where he was struck a second time by an unknown vehicle, which left the scene.

North Shore Ambulance transported the deceased, who sustained serious head and internal injuries, to a local hospital where he was pronounced by a staff physician at 7:10 P.M.  The operator of the Honda was transported to a local hospital for complaint of pain.

The operator of the Honda submitted to a Preliminary Breath Test at the scene which resulted in negative results.  The Honda was impounded for brake and safety tests.  There is no description available at this time for the vehicle that left the scene.
