NCPD: Suspect Seriously Injures Police Officer While Attempting to Flee

Fresh Meadows, NY - January 6th, 2014 - The Nassau County Police Public Information Office reports the details of an incident which occurred on Sunday, January 05, 2014 at 4:40 P.M. in Fresh Meadows.

According to police, Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations Officers located Muhammad Ali, 21, in front of 178-10 Wexford Terrace.  Ali was wanted in connection with an armed robbery which occurred on January 3, 2014 in Hicksville.  Four plain clothes officers identified themselves, displaying their shields, and approached the vehicle which the suspect was in.  The suspect violently resisted arrest by attempting to flee from the scene in the vehicle crushing one of the officers between two cars.  As he turned toward a second officer the officer discharged his weapon striking the suspect.  

The injured Officer was taken to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset where he is being treated for injuries to both legs.

Ali was transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.  The investigation is ongoing.  Charges are pending.
