PSEG Long Island Updates Customers on Storm Effects, Power Restoration Efforts

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  05. January 2018

Uniondale, NY - January 5, 2017 - PSEG Long Island has released an update on their power restoration efforts efforts throughout yesterday's blizzard that slammed Long Island with over a foot of snow and 50+ MPH winds.

  • PSEG Long Island is reporting about 430 of its approximately 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without service.
  • The utility has restored service to more than 97.4 percent (21,139) of the more than 21,694 customers affected by yesterday's storm.
  • Electric service crews will continue to work to respond to outages as safely and as quickly as possible.
  • High winds and heavy snow or ice on electric lines and trees can increase the possibility of downed wires and power outages. These conditions also make it difficult for our crews to get around. It is unsafe for our crews to go up in buckets to make repairs if there are high winds.
  • Our goal, always, is to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We ask our customers for a fair amount of patience and to know we will be there just as soon as it is safe.
Be prepared and stay safe during extreme weather:

  • Downed wires should always be considered “live.” Do not approach or drive over a downed line and do not touch anything contacting the wire. To report a downed wire call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number: 1-800-490-0075
