Three Suspects Start Off the New Year By Robbing a Duane Reade
Nassau County police are on the lookout for three robbers who rung in the New Year by hitting a Duane Reade in Hewlett. The suspects, two black males, and one black female, entered the pharmacy on January 1st at around 8:50 p.m.
The female and one of the males distracted two employees, while the other jumped over the counter and stole non-prescription items. The suspect was unable to the steal prescription medication due to a security gate blocking the way.
When the three ran off, an employee who attempted to stop them was thrown to the floor. There were no injuries during the incident and it’s unknown what direction they went in following the robbery. The female was described as wearing a blue striped jacket, one of the males wore a black hooded sweatshirt, and the other male wore a blue hooded jacket.

Multiple Cars Stolen in West Hempstead on the Same Morning; Possibly Connected
The Fourth Squad in Nassau County are investigating three stolen cars in West Hempstead in the early morning hours of January 2nd. Detectives say the thefts happened between 5:16 a.m. and 6:44 a.m.
The first case of Grand Theft Auto that morning happened when a 64-year-old victim left his car running and went inside to collect some belongings. When he came out he saw his 2000 Toyota being driven northbound on Juliet Road.
Soon after that incident, a 36-year-old female’s 2011 Honda was stolen while she warmed up the car. Around the same time a 53-year-old female had her 2005 Mercedes Benz stolen while also warming up her car.
