The Saint James General Store is the oldest general store in the United States that is still under operation. Unchanged structurally since 1894, the General store reflects a period between 1880 and 1910, retaining the original counters and cases, coffee grinder, tea canisters and barrels and even and old checkerboard. Visitors are happily greeted by a sales women in Gibson Girl garb ready to answer questions about the store's history. The store holds book signings and storybook hours for children and crafting demonstrations for those interested. It is open year-round and included within the Deepwells Farm Historic Park boundaries.
