Located on right on the West Sayville waterfront the Long Island Maritime Museum looks to preserve the maritime history and heritage of Long Island for educational purposes. They have been able to do such by purchasing and restoring boats, vessel and other related equipment for their collections of past and present maritime activities such an shipbuilding, whaling and shell fishing. Also on display at the museum are tools and implements used for maritime crafts, fowl decoys, paintings, maps and charts and a collection of books. LIMM offers a summer discovery program that explores Long Island's maritime history and ecology.
