It was an ever growing interest in the 1970s for local history of the communities of Greenlawn and Centerport that led to the formation of the Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Association. In the late 1980s the Association purchase Suydam Homestead which has been repaired, stabilized and converted into a gallery which houses many historical exhibits, including artifacts discovered on the site.
