Brookhaven Calabro Airport is a 795-acre public airport located just north of Shirley, in Suffolk County, New York. This publicly-owned airport is overseen by the Town of Brookhaven. The airport dates back to Worlkd War II, at which time it was built to provide support for the U.S. Army Air Corps. Then known as Mastic Flight Strip, New York State acquired ownership of the airport following the war. The Town of Brookhaven has owned the airport since 1961, and was named after Dr. Frank Calabro who was instrumental in building the airport.
