Bayport Aerodrome is a well-known historic rural airport with a grass runway, owned and operated by the Town of Islip. The Bayport Aerodrome Society, founded in 1972, is a non-profit organization specializing in antique planes. This airport is not used for commercial flights, which take off at nearby MacArthur Airport. In January of 2008 the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
