New Social Media & The Digital World

Written by Lynn Bishop  |  28. December 2011

The average American is involved in 3.5 social groups according to a study by the Pew Research Center. In the latest program of Exploring Critical Issues, the broadcast series hosted by Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott, discussion centers on how our New Social Media & The Digital World rejuvenates groups by bringing people together in new ways. Sports leagues, church gatherings and other common forms of socialization are finding corresponding groups in the parallel universe we call the Digital World, stated Dr. Scott. Our wide-ranging experts discuss the significance and the mechanics of this new social order. Dr. Scott is joined by Adelphi University Vice President for Communications Lori Duggan Gold; Adelphi University Assistant Professor of Communications Mark Grabowski; AOL Regional Patch Editor David Reich-Hale; and Austin & Williams Executive Vice President Eva LaMere for a review of the basics - What are the new social media? What do we mean by the term? What are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Foursquare? - as well as in-depth discussion of the protocols, business models, security, and future applications and expectations for life 'online.' The hour-long New Social Media & Digital World will air over two weeks as follows: Saturday January 21 and January 28 at 10:30 p.m.; Sunday, January 22 and January 29 at 7:00 a.m.; Monday, January 23 and January 30 at 10:30 p.m., and Friday, January 27 and February 3rd at 1:00 p.m. New Social Media & The Digital World can be viewed on Cablevision channels 29 (Long Island) and 137 (Connecticut and NY area outside of Long Island), Verizon FiOS channel 296 (including NY and Fairfield, CT) and simultaneously online at www.telecaretv.org. Seen by over seven million households, Exploring Critical Issues has earned three Telly Awards, the cable equivalent of the Emmy.
