MINEOLA, NY - December 21, 2011 - Island Harvest, Long Island's largest hunger relief organization, and Elara Foodservice Disposables LLC, a socially responsible manufacturer of single-use gloves and cutlery used by restaurants and institutions, have teamed up to help Long Islander's struggling with hunger.
Under its signature "One Case/One Meal" program, Elara will provide the financial equivalent of one meal directly to Island Harvest for every case of products it sells in the region. Since May, 2011 Elara has already contributed the equivalent of over 30,000 meals through the program to directly benefit those accessing Long Island's soup kitchens, food banks and emergency feeding programs served by Island Harvest.
"Island Harvest is the recognized leader in providing essential food support services to nearly 300,000 men, women and children who are food insecure right here on Long Island," said Dan Grinberg, founder and president of Elara who also serves on Island Harvest's board of directors. "Our partnership with Island Harvest assures our customers that they, in turn, are also doing something good to help those who may not have enough to eat."
"Dan Grinberg and Elara know how important it is to address the growing issue of hunger in our communities," said Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO, Island Harvest. "Their generous support is not only heartwarming and welcome, but it also highlights Elara's leadership position in showing how a for-profit business can incorporate an important philanthropic component within its business model."
