The Fourth Squad reports the arrest of a Jamaica woman for an incident that occurred on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in Lawrence.

According to Detectives, the night time health aid of a 96-year-old female victim arrived to the home to relieve the day time aid when she noticed a laceration on the victim which was not there the night prior. The victim was also complaining of leg pain. The night aid called the victim’s legal guardian and 911.

Officers brought the victim to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment for a broken femur. The victim’s legal guardian watched camera footage from inside the home and observed the victim fall. She then observed the day time home health aid grab the victim’s leg and shake it aggressively causing the victim extreme pain.

The aid did not call 911 nor get the victim appropriate medical attention. After a  thorough investigation, the defendant, Marie Byron, 65, was arrested without incident.

Defendant Byron is charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Elderly/Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent Physically Disabled Person 2nd Degree. She will be arraigned on Monday, December 8, 2025 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
