November 28, 2011...Westbury, New York - Each year, First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury holds a Scholarship Luncheon to raise funds for high school seniors continuing on to college and to recognize scholarship recipients currently attending college. The annual Scholarship Luncheon is also an occasion to honor individuals who have made a positive difference in the Westbury-New Cassel community. At this November's luncheon, First Baptist Cathedral honored educator Dr. Irene Hylton and Long Island Compost President and CEO Charles Vigliotti. Vigliotti founded Long Island Compost and Vigliotti's Great Gardens 35 years ago with his brothers, Dominic and Arnold. Since 1978, the Vigliottis have made New Cassel their corporate headquarters. Today, they employ 165 people and are responsible for recycling more than half of Long Island's total yard waste. "At Long Island Compost, we have always believed in providing assistance to the surrounding community," explained Vigliotti. "When the First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury asked for help with its new Farmers' Market, we were only too eager to lend a hand. From Bishop Harvey to the deacons to everyone in the congregation, First Baptist Cathedral is a dynamic fellowship made up of extraordinarily inspiring people. I am proud to count them as neighbors and friends and deeply appreciate this honor." Each weekend when the Farmers' Market is open, Long Island Compost volunteers its services by trucking in fresh fruits and vegetables from East End farms. Organized by the Unified New Cassel Community Revitalization Corporation (UNCCRC) and held at First Baptist Cathedral, the Farmers' Market is seen as a vital component of the ongoing revitalization of the New Cassel community.
