Hot Spots: Weekend Watch for Day-After-Thanksgiving Entertainment & Holiday Shows

Thanksgiving has arrived and that means all the holiday entertainment on Long Island is about to begin! If you’re looking to walk off what you ate for Thanksgiving dinner, take part in the 3.5 mile hike circling Barcelona Neck beginning at Sag Harbor State Park Golf Course Clubhouse on Friday. You can also laugh it off on Friday evening with a performance by Eddie Griffin or with some of the funniest comedians at Big Laughs in Bay Shore at YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts. Come the weekend, kick off holiday fun with an annual tree lighting event at the Vanderbilt Mansion, watch performances of The Nutcracker and tour the holiday lights display at Jones Beach State Park. There’s also other great entertainment happening over the weekend, including a performance by Patti LaBelle. FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 28, 2014
Who: Day After Turkey Day Hike In Barcelona At Sag Harbor State Park Golf Course
Info: Walk off your stuffed stomach form Thanksgiving dinner with a 3.5 mile hike circling Barcelona Neck using old Trustee Roads dating back to the 1700s. Some beach walking is possible. Meet at the Sag Harbor Golf Course Clubhouse at the end of Barcelona Neck Road.

Who: Eddie Griffin At NYCB Theatre At Westbury
Info: Come enjoy actor and comedian Eddie Griffin perform live! Griffin is best known for his role as Eddie Sherman in the sitcom Malcolm & Eddie. The show also features Bruce Bruce and Lil Duval. Cost: $39.50 to $69.50

Who: Big Laughs in Bay Shore At YMCA Boulton Center For The Performing Arts
Info: Take part in in evening full of laughter as tri-states funniest comedians come out to perform. The lineup includes JJ Ramirez, Buddy Fitzpatrick and Tommy Gooch. Comedians subject to change.
Cost: $20 For Reserved Seating, $15 For VIP Reserved Seating or Groups

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 29, 2014
Who: Annual Tree Lighting and Holiday Tour Of The Decorated Vanderbilt Mansion
Info: The annual tree lighting at Vanderbilt Mansion takes place on Nov, 29th and enjoy a guided tour of the decorated mansion. Children attending may also enjoy free ornament-making (no sign-up necessary). The day will also be filled with the Northport Chorale performing holiday favorites and Christmas caroles and a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Cost: General Admission ($7 Adults, $6 Students and Seniors 62+, $3 Children 12 and Under) Plus $5 For Tour

Who: “Owl Prowl” At Old Bethpage Village Restoration
Info: Enjoy a 1-hour live animal presentation on owls from Long Island and around the world and then take a hike to hear and see who is awake after sunset. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight and register early for the hike as there’s a limit to the first 30 people. In the event of heavy rain the hike will be cancelled.
Cost: $5 Per Person For Presentation Plus $3 For Hike

Info: Enjoy a shortened, child-friendly version of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker!

Who: Holiday Lights Spectacular At Jones Beach State Park
Info: Presented by the NYCB Family of Banks, enjoy a 2.5 mile drive-through of holiday lights at the park – a long missed tradition that’s been brought back this year after its last lighting in 2007. There’s more than 150 animated and synchronized light displays to create a colorful and marvelous holiday experience.

Cost: $20 Per Vehicle ($25 on Weekends)
Time & Place: Begins at Dusk Until 10PM on Mon. – Thurs. and until 11PM on Fri. – Sun. at Jones Beach State Park, 2400 Ocean Parkway, Wantagh
