Written by Kelly Tenny  |  23. November 2014

Black Friday is only a week away which means it’s time to start nailing down what you’ll be shopping for on the day after Thanksgiving. Last year the overall store sales for Thanksgiving and Black Friday came to a staggering 12.3 billion dollars, a 2.3% increase from 2012. This year will be no different! Be prepared to deal with large crowds, long lines and disheveled store shelves all to find that great deal.

One of the best things you can do to prepare for Black Friday is to do your research! Make sure you know who has the best deals on what before start shopping around on one of the biggest shopping days of the year. If you know you’re getting the best deal, or the lowest price, the chances of you feeling buyer’s remorse afterwards or finding a better price and having to go and return the original items will go down dramatically.

There are also a ton of different websites you can use to help find the best deals, compare prices and find coupons:

  • RetailMeNot.com - Has thousands of coupons available for over 50,000 stores.
  • BlackFriday.com If you want to browse the flyers in advance to compare Black Friday deals this website is the perfect one-stop resource.
  • PriceGrabber.com Use this website if you want to check out prices on almost any item, see what the normal prices are and find out just how good of a deal you’re getting.

This website is especially helpful for finding out about last minute sale changes, unannounced sales and other quick information tidbits you want to know as you’re getting ready to head to the stores.
  • CamelCamelCamel.com - If you’re planning on spending your Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, surfing Amazon.com to kick off your holiday shopping, check out this site to see the highest, lowest and current price of the Amazon item you are looking for.

Another great way to be alerted about the various sales and deals going on at your favorite stores is to follow them on social media! Oftentimes retail companies will share their instant deals, and other valuable information, over Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets.

For Facebook start by simply ”liking” a retailer on Facebook then you’ll get the inside scoop on their deals sent directly to your news feed! On Twitter all you have to do is follow the retailers or search the #BlackFriday tag throughout the day.
