Adelphi Hosts Fourth Annual Business Conference for Long Island High School Students

Written by Vickie Moller  |  21. November 2012

For the fourth year in a row, Adelphi University’s Robert B. Willumstad School of Business will host a business conference for Long Island high school students.

In a program themed around NBC’s The Apprentice, students will have the opportunity to network with Adelphi’s expert business faculty to learn essential and relevant marketing components, including the four Ps: product, price, promotion and place.

Participants will be taught how to successfully develop a marketing plan and have the opportunity to put their newly learned skills to the test as they work collaboratively in teams on a sample case assignment. Last year, students were challenged to develop a marketing proposal for an eReader to compete with the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook.

Students will then present their marketing plan to a team of judges (sans Donald Trump). The team with the most successful marketing plan will be awarded the coveted title of the “Adelphi Apprentice.”

Last year Adelphi’s Apprentice event drew 254 high school students from 26 high schools across Long Island.

This year’s event will take place on Tuesday, November 27, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Ruth S. Harley University Center, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

The event is open to freshmen through seniors (limit of three seniors per school.) A faculty adviser must accompany students. Reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no charge for participation.

For more information about the Adelphi Apprentice, contact Tom Luberto at (516) 877-3058 or tluberto@adelphi.edu.

The conference format promises to provide students with a fun, hands-on, interactive learning experience, while engaging their critical business skills.
