Don’t feel like spending a fortune to enjoy some of Broadway’s best? Fortunately on Long Island, several high schools have plays and musical performances to classics like CHICAGO The Musical, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and more! This weekend you can also catch Bill Nye The Science Guy, a Thanksgiving themed pet parade, a Motown tribute concert, the sight of an old-fashioned 1863 Thanksgiving, the musical Little Shop of Horrors and a look into the Judy Garland story. FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 21, 2014

CHICAGO The Musical At Great Neck South High School
Info: Enjoy the school’s tradition of musical theatre excellence with a performance of CHICAGO The Musical! It tells the story of the roaring twenties in Chicago when chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap… until he find out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.

Who: Thornton Wilder’s Our Town At Old Westbury’s Wheatley School
Info: Come out for a drama performance telling the story of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. The story is set to the small town of Grover’s Corners in the early 20th century giving a look back at representation of all life.

Who: Bill Nye “The Science Guy” At NYCB Theatre At Westbury
Info: Bill Nye The Science Guy has educated and entertained many on the world of science. Expect an evening of educational and unforgettable science.

Thanksgiving Themed Pet Parade
Info: If you enjoyed the Halloween pet parades, then get out there for this Thanksgiving themed pet parade. Pups will be dressed in the most creative Thanksgiving themed pet costumes for a costume contest. The parade starts at Harbor Pet and will run along the village, down to the park and back to Harbor Pet. Winners of the contest will be announced immediately after the parade.
Cost: $10 Per Dog To Enter Contest (proceeds go to North Fork Animal Welfare League)

Who: A Christmas Carol At Greenport High School
Info: Enjoy a musical interpretation of the Charles Dickens’ classic! The program is sponsored by a friend of the Floyd Memorial Library and the libraries on the North Fork.

Who: Motown – The Tribute Concert At Uniondale High School
Info: Enjoy an evening of Motown music! This tribute concert features Shadows of the 60s playing to Motown’s super groups.

Who: 1863 Thanksgiving Holiday Celebration At Old Bethpage Village Restoration
Info: Enjoy the sights of an old-fashioned Thanksgiving, featuring decorated pumpkin pies baked in a beehive oven and turkey roasted over an open fire. The afternoon is also complete with traditional fiddle music played and children’s stories.
