Stop Tackling Your Career Alone

Written by coachingforcareers  |  17. November 2002

Are you out of work and looking for a job? Are you unhappy in your current position, and looking for a way out? Do you plan to keep the career you've built, but find yourself looking to recapture the excitement level? Regardless of your circumstances, the best way to find a solution is stop tackling your career challenges alone. This means reaching out. Reaching out is so hard, that many people would prefer to search for what they need in their careers on their own, rather than ask for help. They go for months or years without a solution, until they cannot take it anymore and then they have to ask for help out of desperation. Don't let this happen to you! Reach out today, so you can discover an answer tomorrow. What's The Best Method To Reach Out? Start With Step One Below: 1. Recognize That Tackling Your Career Alone Is Not Working Life is not about reaching our goals alone. When we try to overcome a challenge by ourselves, we have to battle our inner demons (our worries, fears, anxieties, etc.) single-handedly, which in most cases, is unsuccessful. Other people (fortunately) do not see us as we see ourselves. In times of doubt, we need them to remind us of our greatness. 2. Recognize That It Is Ok To Ask For Help It takes a strong person to ask for assistance. Weak people work through their difficulties alone. If you are worried that someone in your life might not want to help you, let him or her tell you that. Don't assume they will think less of you for opening up and sharing an aspect of your career that is not going well at the moment. The only one who is embarrassed is you. The people who care will be honored that you asked for their opinion and their guidance. 3. Recognize That You Will Accomplish More With Support If you are working with fewer resources, you will require more support. With another person to listen and support you, you can tackle the world. Your energy level will be higher and you will stay on track much easier. You will have someone to share your successes with, and someone to tell you that it will all work out during a momentary setback. 4. Recognize That You Will Not Need To Reach Out Forever Life is about give and take. Right now you need something. It's ok to ask for assistance. The person who helps you today might be the person who asks for your help tomorrow. Seasons change and so do the cycles in our careers. Sometimes we are soaring, and other times we are confused and disappointed. Know that this cycle will end one day, and success is right around the corner. 5. Recognize That It May Be Time To Hire A Coach Coaching is one of the best investments you can make in yourself, working with someone who is objective, stands by your side, and wants to see you win. No judgments are made, and no excuses are accepted. It's the ultimate in support and accountability. So what do you say? You only have one life to live so it might as well be a life you love!
