Nassau County, NY - November 14, 2014 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano (2nd left) welcomed members of Second Wind Dreams, an international, nonprofit organization to the Theodore Roosevelt Executive & Legislative Building in Mineola. Second Wind Dreams brought their traveling Virtual Dementia Tour to the County offices where the tour was offered to all in attendance. Their goal is to change the perception of aging through the fulfillment of dreams and educational programs including its flagship program known as the Virtual Dementia Tour.

The Virtual Dementia Tour is a scientifically proven method that builds sensitivity and awareness in individuals caring for those with dementia by altering participants’ physical and sensory abilities with props and circumstances to simulate Alzheimer’s disease. Participants are then placed in a “normal living situation” and asked to perform simple tasks. Within seconds of receiving instruction, participants experience and react with evident, dementia-like behaviors. National Take a Tour Day represents a way to stand up for those living with dementia today in this country.
