Mangano Announces Conference On Co-Occurring Disorders
Nassau County, NY - November 14, 2014 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau’s 5th Annual Co-Occurring Disorders Conference - focusing on “Integrated Health Systems: Helping Families Across the Lifespan”- will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at University’s Mack Student Center from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The conference will highlight challenging and major issues facing health services professionals with regard to the integration of mental health, physical health and chemical dependency treatment.
The Nassau County Department of Human Services, Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services and the Mental Health Association of Nassau County will provide local professionals with the opportunity to increase their awareness of best practices that can be made available to families across the lifespan through the implementation of integrated care into their work in the field of substance use, mental health and physical health. The conference will focus on a system of Integrated Care and how primary care and behavioral health providers can work together. The keynote speaker will provide an overview of particular strategies and will also inform people on how peer support and community education such as Mental Health First Aid can complement and enhance integrated care models.
The morning keynote will discuss The ACE Study: Making a Case for a System of Integrated Care and the follow up break out session will continue with How Understanding Childhood Trauma and Chronic Stress can Serve as a Foundation for Developing a System of Integrated Care. Other AM breakout sessions include Building Capacity in Families to Participate in Their Childs Treatment, and Integrating Psychological Services into Medical Treatment. The afternoon keynote will address Putting the “Person” into the “Person-Centered Health Care Home: Strategies for Real People which will be followed by a break out session on how peer support and community education such as Mental Health First Aid can complement and enhance integrated care models. PM workshops include Parent Empowerment Training, the Changing Face of Seniors, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Demystifying the Complexities of Eating Disorders, and Mindful Treatment Planning for Child and Adolescent Anxiety Disorders.
