Usdan Partners With GoodSearch Funding Engine

Written by Reva Cooper  |  14. November 2011

Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally acclaimed 1,600-student summer arts day camp, announces a new partnership with GoodSearch, the Yahoo-powered search engine and shopping program that donates 50% of its revenue to selected American charities. Usdan is a not-for-profit organization that raises funds for scholarships for its students. Purchases by members of Usdan's extended community of friends and fans will help enable students in the Tri-State Area, regardless of family circumstances, to enjoy the Center's wide variety of programs. More than 96,000 not-for-profits participate in the program, and there is no cost to the consumer for using the GoodSearch program. This applied to a wide array of products from such online merchants as Amazon, Expedia, iTunes, Staples, Nordstrom, Apple, Lands' End, JCPenney, Nike, Bed Bath & Beyond, and 2,500 others. Usdan's Executive Director Dale Lewis sees this as "an exciting new development, one that employs contemporary media and purchasing power to benefit deserving kids who would not otherwise have the means to experience Usdan's world-class faculty, and programs that provide opportunities for lifetime friendships with those who share their passion for the arts. To participate in the program, customers must install the Yahoo-powered Goodsearch toolbar. Whenever a customer visits an online merchant, he or she will be notified if the merchant is a participant in the Goodsearch program. If any purchases are then made on that merchant's site, Usdan will receive a percentage of the sale. To install the toolbar, visit www.usdan.com , click on "Donate" on the home page and follow the instructions for GoodSearch. Usdan Center is now holding Open Houses for its 45th season, which begins June 25, 2012. The next Open House is Sunday November 20, from 11 AM to 2 PM. For more information, write to openhouse@usdan.com, call (212) 772-6060 or (631) 643-7900, or visit www.usdan.com Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, whose alumni include Natalie Portman and singers Jane Monheit and Mariah Carey, has introduced the arts to more than 50,000 Tri-State Area children since its founding in 1968. The Center is open to all young people from age 6 to 18. Usdan's program features more than 40 four and seven-week programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, writing, nature & ecology, and chess. No audition is needed for most programs - rather, admission is based on an expression of interest in the arts. Each summer, students are transported to the Center in air-conditioned buses each day. One-third of Usdan's students attend on scholarship. Although the mission of the Center is for every child to establish a relationship with the arts, the unique stimulation of the Center has caused many to go on to arts careers. Alumni include members of Broadway shows and major music, theater, and dance ensembles such as the Boston Pops and the New York City Ballet. Usdan Center is an agency of the UJA-Federation of New York. ###
