Holiday Health Tips

Written by Eric Anderson  |  09. November 2014

The holidays are typically the time of year for people to over indulge. Between a big meal on Thanksgiving, drinks on New Years, Christmas dinner, and not to mention the overall stress of the holiday season, its no wonder so many people tend to gain weight this time of year.

But just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you can’t keep off the weight. Here are a few tips for keeping those holiday pounds at bay.

Get rid of that Halloween candy
The last thing you need lying around in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving is the giant bowl of leftover candy that Trick-or-Treaters didn’t pick up. You can donate your leftover candy to the troops through Operation Gratitude. Do something nice for the troops and for your pants size at the same time.

Don’t wait until New Years to start your resolution
New Years resolutions are great motivational tools to improve your life. But why wait until January 1st to start hitting the gym? Keeping a consistent exercise schedule is the best way to stay fit. Use your New Years resolution for something else, and start making exercise a regular part of your routine.

Forgive yourself
The temptations will be all around us during the holiday season. No matter how hard you try to maintain your diet, you will undoubtedly slip up a few times - especially when that pumpkin pie makes its way to the table. But just because you indulge on desert once does not mean you’ve completely blown it. Forgive yourself, and make up for it the next day.

Drinks cocktails on the rocks
Avoid mixing your liquor with soda and other sugary mixers. Put it on the rocks, add seltzer or just water to your mixed drinks.

Keep your sleep schedule consistent
Sleeping can have a big impact on your overall health, including your weight. It’s common to pull late nights while having to wake up early the next day during this time of year. Try to use the weekends to make up for lost sleep, and avoid eating and caffeinated drinks at night.
