Minstrel Players Annual Holiday Production of ''A Christmas Carol''

Written by amusement-parks  |  04. November 2007

The Minstrel Players were established in 2000. The original concept of The Minstrel Players was developed by Executive Producer Ray Palen and his sister Tara. Ray and Tara have a lifetime of performance experience and Ray and his wife and Co-Producer, Debbie, sat on the board of a popular theatre group in Queens before starting their own venture. The Minstrel Players are committed to bringing World Class Theater Entertainment to the Long Island Community at an affordable cost. Above and beyond that, The Minstrel Players seek to work with other actors and theatre professionals who share the same love of the craft that they have. This includes buying into the concept of "checking your ego at the door" - an ideology that has worked well for this tight-knit group. They truly believe that putting together the right chemistry of individuals makes for a better performance in every way! In addition to those already mentioned, the backbone of The Minstrel Players include: Rob Cashman - a brilliant Technical Director and Bernie Caprera - one of the top Lighting Directors on Long Island. The Minstrel Players on-stage talent is made up of a mix of regulars and newcomers. The Minstrel Players apply an "open-door" policy to all who want to be a part of one of our productions and encourage new talent/backstage help to join them. Some key members who have contributed to The Minstrel Players success in this capacity are: Karen Ottomano - the on-stage backbone of several Minstrel productions; Tom Williams - actor and frequent director of several Minstrel plays; and many, many other hard-working and wonderfully talented actors who are too numerous to list individually. The Minstrel Players Theatre Company of Northport prepare for their Fourth Annual Holiday production at Houghton Hall - Trinity Episcopal Church, 130 Main Street in scenic Northport Village. They will be staging Charles Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol", and hope that it will become a regular Northport holiday tradition. Performances are one weekend only on Friday, December 7th and Saturday, December 8th at 8 P.M. and a 3 P.M. matinee on Sunday, December 9th. The performance on Friday, December 7th will have a special opening night ticket price of $10 for all seats. "A Christmas Carol" is adapted from the Charles Dickens novel by Tara Palen. Tara Palen is also directing this production with Debbie Palen acting as Assistant Director. The cast features Ray Palen as Scrooge and many Minstrel Players veterans in various roles - Karen Ottomano, Cormac Barrett, Anne Albano, Jennifer Dallari Chirles, Keith Junas, and Gloria Roberts. Additionally, the large cast features many newcomers to the Minstrel stage - including, a group of children/teens ranging in age from 5 to 14, who all perform in various roles. The Minstrel Players are once again up for the challenge of bringing this well-known holiday classic to life and the founding members are all "A Christmas Carol" experts who found inspiration for their rendition in the countless classic stage and film productions of this famous novel. The Minstrel Players' staging of "A Christmas Carol" has become a holiday tradition for the Northport area! The Minstrel Players are committed to bringing "World Class", affordable theater to the Long Island Region. Tickets are $15.00 each and $12.00 for Seniors/Children under 12.
