Once Upon Our Times (Because Life Isn't a Fairy Tale): 65 Years Growing Up Baby Boomer Reveals How Generation Has Changed During Many Decades The baby boomer birth explosion of 79 million people lasted from 1946 to 1964. Now, as 10,000 American baby boomers turn 65 each day, millions reminisce about their past memories, experiences, challenges and triumphs. It's a comfortable contrast to today's fast-changing, tumultuous world, according to many baby boomers and professionals interviewed for the upcoming nostalgia, historical and photo-filled book, Once Upon Our Times. The book explores baby boomer life experiences, starting from the original boomers born just after World War II. Over 200 people from all over America, including many from Long Island, share their fascinating personal stories and observations about family life, carefree (and some not so carefree) childhoods, teen age years, married life, careers, finances, retirement, sports stories of the past 65 years, successes, failures, conflicts and milestones. For many, life wasn't all Ozzie and Harriet or Superman and Wonder Woman. Once Upon Our Times is filled with stories and observations from each decade - including historical events, fads, clothing, slang, music, culture, inventions, baby boomers' contributions to society and even some very sensitive, previously untold insights by people who were different from their peers. There are many photos, graphics and illustrations featured from each time period. Co-authors Sharon Sultan and Cookie Horowitz were young girls when their parents moved to the suburb of East Meadow from New York City. They met again through Facebook 45 years later when Sultan announced the upcoming book to classmates from East Meadow High School. Horowitz designed the cover - a collage of memorabilia and photos from many generations including snapshots of the authors from their high school yearbook. The authors, who will be 65 in 2012, have not seen each other in person for over 46 years. They correspond by e-mail and telephone daily.
