Get Moo-vin’ For The Animals

Written by Catherine Eve  |  20. October 2020

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood of Northport is a treasured community landmark - the Lewis Oliver Farm. The farm dates back to the mid-1800s and today is home to the Lewis Oliver Farm Sanctuary, housing a family of more than 40 rescued farm animals, including Annabelle the cow, goats,

sheep, alpacas, chickens, ducks, peafowl, and turkeys. To help cover the costs of caring for the animals, which runs about $100,000 a year, the farm is hosting a Team Annabelle Virtual Walk/Run now through Oct 25th.

Annabelle

Funding is short

This is the sanctuary’s fourth annual Team Annabelle Walk/Run but the first time it is being done virtually. In previous years it was held as part of Northport’s Great Cow Harbor 10K Run, which has been cancelled due to the pandemic. Team Annabelle Walk/Run has been the sanctuary’s biggest fundraiser of the year and with the 501(c) farm being closed for three months during the lockdown, it had already been short on donations. The organizers  are hoping that people will come together virtually to help raise much needed funds to cover the animals’ lifelong care including hay, feed, bedding and veterinary services.

Here’s how the virtual walk/run works:

Register at https://events.elitefeats.com/annabelle20. The first 100 registrants get a Team Annabelle's Just Moo-ve buff and everyone receives a keepsake race bib.

Walk or run (or hop, skip, & jump!)

ANY where! (on the street;  in the woods; on the beach or on your treadmill!)

ANY time! (morning, noon, or night...makes no difference)

ANY how! (lightning speed or at snail’s pace)

In other words: JUST MOOve!

Registration is $25. Registrants can ask friends and family to sponsor them and raise additional funds. All proceeds will go toward covering the animals’ lifelong care. Visit TeamAnnabelle.com for additional information.
