(Kings Park, NY) - On November 23, School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI), along with the New York Islanders, will present "SBPLI Family & Friends Night" at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale. Game time is 7 p.m., when the Islanders face off against the Philadelphia Flyers. Both SBPLI and the Islanders want to show fans that science, engineering and technology can be just as fun as professional sports. Robots that competed in this year's Long Island FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) will be on display throughout Nassau Coliseum for demonstrations. These robots were designed and built by high school robotics teams from Long Island. Tickets are available for a special discounted price of $50, $25 and $15. You must download the flier from www.sbpli.org in order to receive the discounted ticket price. A portion of the ticket sales will go to benefit SBPLI-LI FIRST and its robotics programs. Payment is by either cash or check only (no credit cards). Check or money orders must be made out to SBPLI. (SBPLI) was founded in 1984 by Fred Breithut with the goal of developing partnerships between local high schools and businesses that would provide students with practical experience and curriculum development, while helping the business community develop its future workforce. Over 100 partnerships have been formed. In 1999, Long Island FIRST was formed for the purpose of developing a Long Island Regional FIRST Competition. In 2000, 14 high school teams participated. The Long Island Regional has since grown with 50 teams participating in 2011. On January 8, 2011, registered teams were provided with supplies and the competition's game rules. The 2011 Competition was held at Hofstra University on March 24-26, 2011.
