October not only brings crisp fall weather, pumpkins, apple cider and Halloween festivities… it is also the time when America’s favorite sports are in full swing! If you’re a sports fanatic that is interested in having a wedding during this month, why not have a sports theme?

This is a great theme for those couples out there who love to enjoy their sports together. You can get real creative with the decor and it will allow for a fun and free atmosphere for you and your guests. To begin your planning, first choose a sport you would like to arrange your theme around and plan things to match the colors of your favorite team!

Once you know these features, you can start planning everything else. If you need some help, check out these tips to guide you through the organization process:

Save the Dates
Inform your friends and family of your wedding date by sending out “tickets to a game” styled save the dates! Have photos taken to use on the “tickets” and have all the information listed below it. Even include a barcode for the full effect! This will represent your theme perfectly and is a creative way to let your guests know about your big day.

Guest Book
A cool way to display a “guest book” is to use an old jersey or purchase one that your friends and family can sign! Choose a jersey from whatever sport you’re using as your theme and pick your favorite team and player. Be sure to purchase a large jersey so there’s enough space for everyone to fit their well wishes. After your wedding, the jersey can be placed in a glass box and used as decoration in your home!

Centerpieces
Your centerpieces are an important feature of your wedding decor and will be a huge statement at your party! Set up vases in the center of each table and fill with baseballs, for a baseball theme, golf balls for a golf theme, hockey pucks for the hockey lovers and so forth! To go along with a baseball theme, you can even place the diamond right in the center and then put the vase right on top of it. If you’re interested in having a football theme, place one right in the middle surrounded by candles or a bouquet of flowers

Another great centerpiece suggestion is a helmet that goes with the sport you have chosen. You can have flowers coming out of it or you can leave it by itself and surround it with items of your choice. For example, if your sport is hockey, place the helmet in the center and circle it with hockey pucks and candles! If you have chosen NASCAR as your theme, use a full face racing helmet placed on top of a checkered flag. Add a bit more fun to your centerpiece by scattering Hot Wheel cars all around it!

Favors
Send your guests home with a cool favor that will remind them of a fun evening! Personalize a large styrofoam finger, the ones that get handed out at games, and give them to each of your friends and family! Personalize it with your wedding date, last name and anything else you wish to add!

Another great favor idea is to personalize an item that represents the sport you’re using. Have your names and wedding date engraved on a baseball, a football, a hockey puck, a checkered flag, a mini racing tire or a soccer ball! You can get quite creative with a sports theme so let your imagination run wild!

These ideas are perfect if you’re having a sports theme with one sport in mind. But you can even use these ideas to have a wedding that represents all different kinds of sports. Switch each table up with a different sports theme and use decor that shows off each one you’re using!
