The Have and Have-nots

Written by mrslongisland  |  06. October 2007

My friend had a birthday she turned thirty-nine. She stopped by to see me, I broke out the wine. We talked of a few things of this and of that, sharing our stories and enjoying our chat. She spoke of her husband, no longer around he left her with two kids to raise on her own. The house left in shambles the bills in arrears she packed up her children despite her great fears. Her eyes filled with tears, emotion and grief revealing her secrets she found some relief. She was too proud to beg, borrow or steal declining my offer to help with a loan. She left in a hurry her thanks so sincere and went back to the motel room the place they now called home. I stood in my kitchen angry at myself for being such a fool earlier that day. Worried about money the bills still to pay. What nerve of me to moan, to bitch and complain one glance at my counter two loaves of bread still remain. I have my family, my health and my home. I am humble and thankful for all that I've got as I realize the difference between have and have-not.
