This Saturday, September 29th is Museum Day Live! – a great opportunity to experience over a dozen Long Island museums at no charge.  Courtesy of Smithsonian Magazine, hundreds of museums across the country, including 14 right here on Long Island are opening their doors for free.  The free admission is good during regular museum hours, and this special promotion is valid this Saturday only. We’ve put together a list of all of the LI Museums that are participating, and after picking the one you’d like to visit, you must go to Smitsonian Magazine website and click on Ticket Information tab in order to get your tickets.  You simply need to fill out the form on the site, and you will be emailed the instructions to download and print tickets for two people per household at no charge.  If you are planning to go to a museum with more than two people, the rest of the guests will have to pay full admission.  Also, please note that it is not valid for special exhibits, parking, IMAX film screenings or for use with any other offers. The museum also has the right to limit the number of guests, if they reach capacity.

Visiting a museum is a great way to supplement in-classroom learning, and a great way to enjoy a day of educational fun with the whole family. It’s looking a lot like rain this weekend, and visiting a museum is the perfect way to get out, and still enjoy the day, whether or not the weather decides to hold out or not.

This is a great opportunity to check out some of the fabulous local treasures, and there’s no better price than free!  Our Museum directory includes information on all of the local Long Island Museums, including the fourteen that are participating in this special promotion. Click on the links below for information, directions, and contact information for each of the museums.

Here are the participating Long Island institutions:

Nassau County

Suffolk County
