Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Islandia this morning.
 
Eric Simmons was driving a 2025 Dodge Pickup truck westbound in the HOV lane on the Long Island Expressway, near exit 58, when a 2014 Honda motorcycle being driven by James Coon attempted to cross in front of him and the vehicles collided causing Coon to be ejected from the motorcycle.
 
Coon, 61, of East Patchogue, was transported via ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious physical injuries. Simmons, 51, of Ridge, was not injured. 
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to contact Fourth Squad detectives at 631-854-8452.
