National Coffee Day is on September 29th and by is celebrated by 111 million coffee lovers around the world.  If the first words out of your mouth every morning are, “I’ll have a large coffee”—or if you can’t even speak until after you’ve had your java fix—there's a national holiday created especially for you.  Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to “New Amsterdam,” now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association.  We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers.

The purpose of this day, which began back in 2005, is to celebrate the enjoyment of coffee, promote fair trade coffee and showcase the coffee growing industry. There are even National Coffee Day greeting cards for sale.

Are you a coffee fanatic? According to a new survey by Dunkin’ Donuts and Career Builder, there are some people who are more productive at their jobs when they drink java, because coffee plays a major role in helping them perk up at work.

Raise your mug and celebrate National Coffee Day at some of our favorite local coffee houses.
