Sunday's Top 10: Getting your Home Fall Fabulous

Written by Debbi Spiegel  |  16. September 2012

Cool mornings, Montauk daisies are budding, mums are making their debut and the school supply aisles have been replaced by Halloween costumes and decorations.  Homeowners should be planning to prepare their home for fall. It’s early, but you’ll find it easier to do repairs and cleaning over the next few weekends while the weather is still warm. Taking the time now to prepare your home for the cold weather ensures comfort in the months ahead and saves you money as well.

The first step in cleaning your home for the Fall is to check for any summer specific items that will no longer be in use. These items include any children’s toys and garden furniture that can be put away in a shed or garage.  This is the time to feed your lawn to ensure its health and vitality.  The proper blend of nutrients will help it to become thicker and develop a better root system.

Other ideas could be to give your home an exterior make-over.  Are your garage doors insulated?  This can make a huge difference in maintaining the temperature in your home.  The return on the investment will come on your LIPA or oil bill.
