More information: Harvest Gospel Concert SeriesThis fall marks the 25th Anniversary of the East End Arts Council's Harvest Gospel Concert Series. This non-denominational celebration connects many community members, together sharing the sound of music from the soul! Rehearsals take place in October and November, and three concerts are held in various locations on Long Island's twin forks in late November. It is an honor to have Mrs. Maryanne McElroy, a gifted musician and beloved leader as the Artistic Director again this year, who has been involved since the concert series' inception, and we have her to thank for the success of this program. More information: Hand FansHand fans are said to have originated in Baptist churches in the Deep South in the early 1800's. Church dress code was conservative, and many times the only way to keep cool on hot summer days was to open a window and pray for a cool breeze. These fans were invented so that churchgoers could quietly relieve themselves of the heat, and from there, the tradition took firm hold.
