Fabulous Fall Faces

Written by beauty  |  07. September 2001

Fall is almost here and so are the new trends. Here's the latest in makeup from our beauty consultants! Smoldering Eyes- The look to have this season is smoky eyes. To achieve this look, you need to have eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara in shades of gray and black. Begin by finely lining your upper and lower lashes with a Kohl pencil such as Lancome's Black Ebony. Apply black eyeshadow just above the liner, blending the shadow and liner. Next, use a dark gray eyeshadow all over your eyelid in a sweeping motion from left to right. Shadows like Lancome's Darkroom and Blur will help you create this look. Blend using a cotton swab to soften edges. Finally, apply two coats of Kiss Me Mascara in black to your upper and lower lashes. You'll have eyes to die for! Chiseled Cheeks- If you weren't born with a model's bone structure (and who was?) you can create the illusion of angles with makeup. To determine where your cheekbone starts, draw an imaginary line from the bottom of your nose towards your ears. Starting from the back of your cheekbone, blend the blush forward. To create further contour, use a slightly darker shade of blush directly above the first application and blend. Be sure to use the same back to front technique as before. We like Lancome's Blush Subtil and Clarins Powder Blush. Much less painful than sucking in your cheeks, no? Flawless Skin- The face of the season is flawless. To get it, be sure to begin with clean, moisturized skin. Using your fingers or a makeup sponge, apply foundation only where you need it. For a first-rate appearance, the color should match your skin tone exactly. We like Clarins Ultra-Satin foundation for it's smooth, velvety finish. Use a fine-pointed brush or your ring finger to apply concealer, like Lancome Photogenic, to any blemishes, dark circles, or spots that your foundation didn't hide. Be sure to also choose a concealer that is the same color as your skin, not lighter because it will stand out. Set your work with a light dusting of pressed or loose powder from Profaces or Donna Fujii. Luscious Lips- This Fall, lips run the gamut from matte to glossy, from the sheerest pink to the darkest red. To get your color to last longer, apply a sheer layer of foundation which will give it a base to adhere to. For a pouty lip, apply your favorite lipstick, then dab a bit of clear gloss in the center of your bottom lip. If a matte look is what you want, gently blot your lips with a tissue after you apply one coat of color . This technique will eliminate any excess oils, so that a second coat will really lock in color. Some of our favorite lip colors and glosses are Lancome's Rouge Magnetic and Clarins Lip Glaze. These looks are sure to give you (and maybe someone else) a reason to smile!
