School House Wedding Inspiration

Written by Chelsea Triola  |  06. September 2014

School is officially back in session! For all you teachers out there, or book and school lovers, we have the perfect wedding theme for you! Create a first day of school setting for you and your guests to enjoy on your big day.

If you’re not sure where to begin, no worries, we have put together a list of wonderful ways to create a classroom setting that is still elegant and wedding-worthy!

Save the Dates and Invitations
A unique way to send out your save the dates is to create a “library card” with your wedding date on it. This is a non-traditional way to let your guests know when your wedding is and it surely flows perfectly with your theme! As for the invites, have your friends and family open up a “black and white composition notebook” where all your wedding information will be. This is a neat idea that represents your theme and lets your guests know exactly what type of wedding they will be attending!

Seating Cards
Rather than having actual cards with a name and table number on them, create an eye-catching table complete with mason jars filled with pencils. Attach a ribbon to the pencils with your guests name and their table number. Behind the jars, place a mini chalkboard atop a stack of books that reads something like: “Please take a pencil and find your seats.” Another fun way to use this idea is to have the table number attached to each mason jar, with the pencils inside belonging to the guests of each table.

Centerpieces
This theme really allows you to get creative when it comes to your centerpieces. You can use anything from books, pencils, crayons and notebooks! If you’re interested in having a floral arrangement complete with a classroom kick, try using a beautiful bouquet held together by a vase of pencils. So it comes together nicely, use sunflowers, a great flower that will go perfectly with the color of the pencils. If you would like to use flowers with a bit more colors in them, create a vase of crayons instead!

This next centerpiece idea will put all your old books to great use! Stack about three books in the center of each table, with a ribbon around them to keep them from falling over. On top of the books, place a mini chalkboard with the table number on it. You can even add some flowers to this centerpiece by simply placing a vase next to the stack of books, or using some candles to place around them to set a passionate mood.

This last centerpiece suggestion is for those of you who really enjoy thinking outside the box! Complete each table with its own classroom scene. Change it up at each table or use the same for all of them! Some can have a globe, others can have a pencil sharpener, rulers or boxes of chalk. Add some floral decor to these centerpiece items to dress up the table a bit more.

Decor
Instead of having a traditional wedding arch, why not set up an arch made of books? It will not only make a lasting impression on your guests but will look amazing in photos! This item is something you can even make on your own to help save some money. Use old books that you no longer want/need or find some at garage sales for a very low price.

As your guests enter your party, set up a chalkboard with the “wedding rules” written on it. You can make these up to be funny if you’d like or they can be a quick set of three rules such as, “Take a seat,” “Enjoy the food,” and “Dance the night away!”

Remember those large old school maps that most teachers have hanging in their classrooms? Get creative and use them as wall decor! You can use one or a bunch all throughout your wedding party. It will add some flavor to the evening and will really stand out in photos, too!

Favors
Send your guests home with something that not only represents your theme but that they can enjoy as well. Set up jars filled with caramel and give them out with an apple, the perfect gift to give out at a school house wedding! This favor will satisfy their sweet tooth and it is something you can dress up a bit by placing it in decorative wrapping to go with your theme. To complete your favor, wrap a ribbon around the jar with the last name and wedding date!
