What it takes ...

Written by startupbusinesses  |  11. August 2000

How many times have you dreamed or thought of starting your own business? It took me over fifteen years to make the "final" step ... and I say "final" step because each of us plans and dreams of being our own boss and having control of our own lives. In the past, I have started companies for wealthy entrepreneurs on several occasions, there are certain well-planned steps that a cautious person should always take. You will find plenty of articles here in the future about those steps and the available resources to help you take each one BUT it is appropriate that my first article be from the heart where each of us dreams because without heart, stamina and a determination to make this new fledging business work you can bet you are not going to succeed. Heaven help me but let me quote my mother, "If it is worth having, it is worth working hard for!" so be prepared, this is the hardest challenge that you will ever face. The best part is that there are plenty of resources, you just found two -- the "start up businesses expert" site and the LongIsland.com site. As I build out this site I will include the names of some great Long Island networking resources, great information provided by the Small Business Administration. libraries, SCORE and the list will grow. I will also be available to answer your questions by email. What would YOU like to see featured on this site? What type of articles or features are most important to you? Do you need a speaker for a local Chamber of Commerce meeting, Kiwanis club meeting, library class -- ask, let me see what I can do for you. Let's interact and have some fun while we exchange ideas and learn about starting a business.
