Scam Calls Targeting Long Islanders

Written by erin__l  |  09. August 2019

The state police is warning all Long Islanders against scam calls that are targeting residents of Long Island. Investigators are saying that this specific scam call is someone who is falsely identifying as a police officer. Even the number shown on caller ID that the scammer uses is a real state police station phone number.

The problem with this scam call is that the scammer asks the phone call recipient for his or her personal information. This is a big red flag because state police say they will never ask for personal information, especially on the phone. If you receive this scam call, please either don’t answer or hang up if they ask you for your personal information.
