Thursday's Top 10: Ten Long Island Landmarks to Visit with the Kids!

Written by Debbi Spiegel  |  09. August 2012

Long Island is famous for many things at different times of the year - its vast parks, beautiful beaches, rich historical culture, and ample opportunities for fun.  Life is good here on Long Island!  There are some more unique, off the beaten path places to visit - think of this list of iconic places as more of a scavenger hunt for amazing experiences.  There's nothing like the thrill of discovering new places especially when sharing it with your loved ones.  Some places can also be part history lessons too - put on your sneakers and climb hundreds of steps to the top of a lighthouse for a view that you'll never forget.  Step back in time to the mid-19th century colonial living (Kids will be amazed that there were no TV's, video games, or indoor plumbing!).  Our waters can take you on a ferry or a kayak.  Visit with all sorts of ducks and horses.  Some are not what you think.  See native animals get rehabilitated or go on a seasonal night walk to see nocturnal animals out and about.
